City Guide: Did Someone Say Dessert?

Summer is one of the best seasons in New York. The city is bursting with energy and there are countless opportunities to sunbathe in the park or dine al fresco. So, of course it is only fitting to round up our favorite places for the best sweet treats to indulge this summer or year-round. With all the unique options the city has to offer, here are H+B’s picks for those moments when your sweet tooth aches for something good!

Il Laboratorio del Gelato

A staple of the Lower East Side, Il Laboratorio del Gelato offers some of the most unique gelato flavors in the city, all boasting the same light and refreshing texture that makes it a standout amongst the many creameries in NYC. Ranging from the delectable (maple walnut, honey lavender) to the unexpected (avocado, cheddar cheese), there’s a flavor to satisfy every palate.

Treat House

What started as a bake sale idea eventually became the basis for Treat House, a gourmet rice crispy treat bakery with locations on the Upper West Side and Upper East Side. Topped with everything from chocolate-dipped pretzels to marshmallows to gummy bears, Treat House’s bite-sized goodies are as cute as they are tasty. One bite of the classic rice crispy taste and you’ll feel like a kid again.

 Tu-Lu’s Gluten Free Bakery

As one of the only 100% gluten free bakeries in New York, Tu-Lu’s is a destination for sweet treats that offer all the flavor of traditional desserts without wheat. Located in the East Village, Tu-Lu’s has everything from mini cupcakes to frozen cookie dough balls, with most items being available in a vegan option. Our recommendation? The Snickerdoodle cookies (which are also dairy-free!).

Popbar

Offering gelato, sorbet, and yogurt in a portable stick form, Popbar is the update to the ice pop that you didn’t even know you needed. Located in the heart of the West Village, Popbar customers can choose from a wide range of flavors and customizable options, including dips of chocolate, coconut flakes, nuts, and a ton of other delicious toppings that take your bar to the next level. With endless options for dip and drizzle combinations, Popbar is the kind of place that keeps you coming back for more.

 Café Mogador

One of New York’s few Moroccan eateries, Café Mogador is most well-known for its East Village and Williamsburg brunch-but the best part of brunch comes at the end, with some of their delicious dessert options. The H+B pick? The pear and cranberry tart, the perfect blend of fruity and savory. For the chocolate lovers, don’t miss out on the warm chocolate cake, a mouthwatering soufflé that comes drizzled in raspberry sauce.

Wafels & Dinges

With both an East Village café and a truck that rotates around Manhattan, Wafels & Dinges makes it easy to get a fix of genuine Belgian waffles. Whether you go for a classic plain waffle or pile it up with “dinges” (Flemish for “whatchamacallits”) such as Nutella, strawberries, and spekuloos spread, a treat from Waffles & Dinges always hits the spot.
